To get the most out of your photo session, I have put together a page for you to know what to expect before, during, and after a session.
PRIOR TO THE SHOOT
Child Portraits
Cranky toddlers can be expected during a child session, but here are a few tips to help avoid the situation.
On a side note, think about anything you may have that might be a cute prop. I have collected some over time, and I usually try to incorporate one or two into the shoot. However, some individuals are not fans of props and that’s perfectly okay! This is your photo session, and it is my top priority for you to be happy with the outcome.

Cranky toddlers can be expected during a child session, but here are a few tips to help avoid the situation.
- Make sure little ones have full bellies and are well rested.
- Bring a drink, snack, and special treat.
- As a last resort, bring along a favorite toy that you won't mind being in the pictures.
- Be sure to be enthusiastic about the photo shoot. Tell them how much fun they are going to have... Excitement is contagious!

DURING THE SHOOT
Child Portraits
It’s important for your child to feel comfortable with me. At the beginning of the session, I will try to make friends with him/her. I understand your child may be shy. I have different techniques for dealing with how they may respond to me. I aim to get a mix of photographic styles during a shoot. I love candid photographs and capturing children in their natural state. Posing little ones is also lots of fun!
So, what can you do as a parent to improve the session? Most parents of toddlers feel the need to help get their little one to do what he/she is “supposed” to be doing.. It’s just human-nature. However, this can actually make the session difficult for the photographer. When this happens, there are two or more adults calling the child’s name, trying to get him/her to “look this way.” Eventually, the child tunes everyone out. That does not mean you cannot take an active part of your child’s session. I absolutely will need your help at some point! I only ask that you please wait until I ask for the parents' assistance. This is one of the most helpful things you can do for the entire photo session. With that being said, I truly do appreciate any ideas or suggestions you may have!
Other Sessions
Just like children, adults can feel nervous and uncomfortable getting their picture taken; I know I am! If you feel uneasy while being photographed, it shows. Unless you are a professional model, you’re probably clueless as to what to do and how to stand... I expect this! I’m here to help you feel comfortable and relaxed, so you can have fun, because that is what makes amazing images!

AFTER THE SHOOT
Afterwards, I try to choose a “favorite of the day” to be posted on Facebook, but this is not a guarantee. I too, have a family and, as you know, things do come up. It will be posted as soon as possible. Within a week, a preview of the session will also be posted. Feel free to share your images with family a friends!
*Copyright Reminder*
… As stated in the contract:
When sharing images on Facebook, I kindly ask that you share your preview album directly from Brittany Hursen Photography's page. If you decide to choose an image as your profile or cover photo, please provide textual credit in the photo’s description section. Please, only use the images as they are. Do not alter the images in anyway, such as processing them with your own editing style or adding Instagram filters. I thank you for respecting these requests.
